Our PLAYFUL History
Knuckle Bones began in 2004 when Mitch was asked by several parents to provide athletic games at their children’s birthday parties. It was simply Mitch, on a bike with a trailer, peddling the equipment all over Greater Boston.
Those early successes showed that there was a desperate need for a company that provides fun-filled, athletic games to people of all ages. Following the suggestion of parents, Knuckle Bones expanded into childcares and after school programming. From there we’ve continued to grow to fill every niche of the market, mostly based on client’s requests. Since our establishment, Knuckle Bones has worked with hundreds of families, childcares, after school programs, universities, corporations, and communities to provide exciting, fun, physical activities, all for the love of play!
Our Future
With all the play that we’re engaged in we still find the time to dream big. We look forward to the day when we can have our very own venue to call home and to the publication of a games book. Of course, we have other plans but, we want to keep them as a surprise to you...our client.
The Knuckle Bones Name
Wherever the Knuckle Bones team goes the question always arises, “Where does the name come from?”. Actually, it has a very fascinating origin. Back in ancient Greece the children played hundreds of games almost exclusively with the knuckle bones of sheep and lamb. These bones were inspiring to kids because they could be thrown, kicked, rolled or caught. As our company dares to achieve the same creativity, we thought the Knuckle Bones name was appropriate and original.
“Knuckle Bones brings a positive message to children about healthy bodies, exercise, and a positive, fun-loving spirit. Packaged within a format including non-competitive activities, challenging games, and high-spirited activities, children and adults use grit, determination, and motor planning to accomplish small tasks and large group pursuits.”
